Eco-PREP
December 8, 2004
The Ecological Preservation Restoration & Education Program (Eco-PREP) is a non-profit environmental education service that provides at-risk youth in four Humboldt Community Schools with a hands-on environmental education curriculum that promotes career opportunities in natural resources.
Eco-PREP services benefit approximately 100 students with an environmental education curriculum that promotes career opportunities in natural resources and science. Court and Community School students reflect both a high ethnic diversity and serious economic need. Over 90% of the students at each of these schools are eligible for free or reduced lunches. In addition, these schools lack the necessary funding for the field trips.
Eco-PREP is a crucial link between public schools and the community; we enhance the Schools-to-Career perspective of community schools through partnerships with numerous public agencies, non-profits and local businesses. We present in-class lessons, take students on field trips, invite in guest speakers, and facilitate backpacking adventures.
Eco-PREP is proud to announce that we have a new Board of Trustees. Thanks go out to Emily Evans and Julie Clark of the Bureau of Land Management, Sarah Rafferty of VISTA/Redwood Community Action Agency, and Allison Fast, also of VISTA/Redwood Community Action Agency. Also, Eco-PREP has a new office! Come visit us at the Redwood Peace & Justice Center, 1040 H Street, Arcata.
