For the past seven years, Trees Foundation has had the special privilege of organizing what has become a tremendous annual event: the Coho Confab. This year, we feel especially proud of its growth and success. Having migrated south to Marin County, we are continuing the annual meandering of this great event. Along with our returning "co-host" the Salmonid Restoration Federation (SRF), we invited the Marin based watershed group, Salmon Protection And Watershed Network (SPAWN) to join efforts in organizing the 3-day weekend of hands-on restoration workshop trainings and networking opportunities.
Over 100 participants, presenters and volunteers gathered in the glorious redwoods of the Samuel P. Taylor State Park
to learn skills that can be applied directly in restoring their home watersheds. Trees Foundation would like to thank everyone who made the 7th Annual Coho Confab such a wonderful success!
First and foremost, our deep gratitude goes out to our co-hosts SRF and its Executive Director Dana Stolzman, and Watershed Biologist Reuven Walder and the staff of SPAWN. The "confabulous" presenters included: Brock Dolman of the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, Brannon Ketcham with the Point Reyes National Seashore, Steven Swain, consulting arborist in Santa Cruz, Peter Krottje with the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Karen Gaffney and Rose Roberts of Circuit Riders Productions, Inc., John Green and Danny Hagans of Pacific Watershed Associates, Todd Steiner of SPAWN, Jim Harrington of Sustainable Land Stewardship Institute International, Greg Andrew with the Marin Municipal Water District, Paul Mason with the Sierra Club, and Don Allan with Redwood Community Action Agency.
This event was made possible in part by the support of the California Wildlands Grassroots Fund of Tides Foundation, the Grantee Exchange Fund of Common Counsel Foundation, and the California Salmon Partnership funded NOAA Fisheries.
Grace Brookman and her culinary skills kept us incredibly well fed throughout the weekend, and the tremendous effort of all of the volunteers kept the weekend flowing smooth. Thanks for all of your help!
For their generous donations, we thank Trader Joe's of San Rafael, Good Earth Natural Foods in Fairfax, Marin Bagel Co., Noah's Bagels, the Lagunitas Brewery, Albertson's of Fairfax, Safeway of San Rafael, Signature Coffee, the Tofu Shop, Bien Padre, Brio Bread, Casa Lindra Salsa, Choice Teas, Clif Bar!, Redwood Roots Farm in Bayside, Sacred Grounds, Traditional Medicinals, and Lynn Ryan.
A special thanks goes to Samuel P. Taylor State Park for
hosting our event, and the Lagunitas Creek watershed itself with the wonder of the species it harbors, including, of course, the fish!
We already look forward to next year, and hope to see you all there as well. Look in the next issue of Branching Out for the 8th Annual Coho Confab location and date!
