Dave Walsh has been working on projects to support self-sustaining agriculture and ecotourism models in Ecuador's Los Cedros Cloud Forest Reserve and Bosque Protector (protected forest) Pa?acocha.
In California, AFI is advocating for community-based nonprofit protection of Rainbow Ridge's old growth; the project would build on the Redwoods to the Sea acquisition and stewardship by ringing the northwest Mattole watershed headwaters with protected areas and certified sustainable second-growth forestry.
In local public land conservation, AFI is initiating the Coast Range Connectivity Project to protect core areas as wilderness and to restore critical linkages in BLM, Six Rivers, and Mendocino national forests. Working with the Community Wilderness Alliance, Lynn Ryan and Doug Wallace are seeking regional support (adopters) for eighteen potential core wilderness areas. Stay tuned for a schedule of hikes into local wild places through the fall.
Volunteers interested should call (707) 923-4475 or stop by our new office in Redway (next to Denise's Caf?); simple and complex tasks await.
