Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters - March, 2003 Update

The media machine has been humming at the Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters (BACH) the past few months to get northcoast forest issues wider press coverage. That ?media machine? of course, is several machines, including a fax, computers, blast-fax service, and the Homo sapiens who have been collaborating with other organizations and individuals advocating for north coast forests. It is a tough time to get environmental issues on the media?s radar screen, but we can?t let things fall by the wayside while we work to avert the catastrophic war that threatens us and the natural world as well. BACH has collaborated with tree-sitters, the Campaign for Old Growth, Humboldt Watershed Council, the Pepper Spray plaintiffs, Northcoast Earth First!, and others, getting people?s voices on the radio, writing press releases and sharing our resources.

We?ve also expanded our outreach, recently getting letters written to the Water Quality Control Board and other agencies. The new Bay Area Forest Activist newsletter just hit the streets, containing our ?hot spots? on the northcoast map. We hope to make it a regular online feature so people can see where the trouble spots are, in terms of logging in threatened species habitat, flooding and slides, and where the hope lies, noting where people are sitting in trees.

Please contact us to get a stack of newsletters. Stop in when you are in the southern reaches of the coastal redwood forest!
